[Originated from Sri Lanka]
Thai Buddhism has been significantly influenced by Sri Lanka. While there are significant local and regional variations, the Theravada school provides most of the major themes of Thai Buddhism.

By tradition, Pāli is the language of religion in Thailand. Scriptures are recorded in Pāli; using either the modern Thai script or the older scripts, (Khom and Tham). Pāli is also used in religious liturgy, despite the fact that most Thai people understand very little of this ancient language. Even though many local texts have been composed in order to summarise the vast number of teachings found in the Tipitaka, the Pāli Tipitaka is the primary religious text in Thai Buddhism.

[Hindu Influence]
The major influence on Thai Buddhism is Hindu beliefs which was arrived from Cambodia during the Sukhothai period. Like in Cambodia, Vedic Hinduism played a strong role in the early Thai institution of kingship; it eventually created laws and orders for Thai societies as well as religion.

This is the reasons why some rituals today are similar to Hindu rituals. While the visibility of Hinduism in Thai society has been declined substantially during the reign of Chakri dynasty, Hindu influences continue to be seen in around Buddhist institutions, ceremonies, and as well as local households.
